As the EU prepares its post-2030 energy and climate framework, energy efficiency is expected to remain a key pillar of the Energy Union. Building on the revised Energy Efficiency Directive, policymakers are now reflecting on how to boost implementation and align the framework with the challenges of the decade ahead.

Discussions are evolving beyond targets alone to consider the broader value of energy efficiency, including its contribution to affordability, competitiveness and energy security. While approaches such as Energy Efficiency First and the valuation of wider benefits are gaining attention, stakeholders continue to debate whether these tools help unlock investment or add complexity to decision-making. Perspectives from industry, local authorities and citizens will be essential in shaping how energy efficiency is delivered and perceived in the years ahead.

Join this Rapporteur Virtual Conference sponsored by ENEFIRST+ and SEED-MICAT to explore how energy efficiency can support Europe’s post-2030 energy and climate framework, drawing on recent policy developments and stakeholder perspectives.

Questions to be addressed include:

- What lessons can be drawn from the revision and implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive?
- How energy efficiency can support energy system resilience, reduce energy costs and protect from energy shocks?
- How important is it to consider wider benefits of energy efficiency investments: mostly a matter of narratives? Or key points to mobilise funding?
- What challenges should the post-2030 framework address in priority? What key changes are needed?
- How do stakeholders, including industry, public authorities and citizens, perceive the role and value of energy efficiency in the longer term?
